As a birth worker, I respect bodily sovereignty.

Birth work is more than a job for me, in fact it has become an obsession. I’ve always been fascinated by birth and how magical our bodies are, the way we transform during pregnancy all the way leading up to postpartum. It’s a complete metamorphous of physical, emotional and spiritual growth.
Let’s get into how I became a doula, shall we… I’m a mother of two boy’s with a age gap of 12 years. I know, it’s quit a gap but I have a very good reason for that. I was 22 when I gave birth to my first with no preparation, feeling like I had nothing to worry about because “the hospital is the safest place for me and my baby” was my exact thought. I ended up getting induced which lead to a cascade of interventions, time limits during the pushing stage leading to threats of a caesarean and a spike in my blood pressure. I left the hospital feeling somewhat like a failure, not knowing why. Fast forward to 2020, finding out I was pregnant and feeling overjoyed but also nervous. I knew that birth should be empowering so I wanted to make sure I found a provider that listened to my concerns, spent time getting to know me, explained the risk and benefits of everything that needed to take place and most importantly, someone who made me feel safe. After doing a lot of research, I knew having a home birth was the route best for me and my baby. I ended up having the birth of my dreams and felt so empowered but there was definitely a missing piece to my birth puzzle, and that was the presence of a doula. I felt like I had everything I needed and there wasn’t a need for one, until I was in the thick of it. I quickly realized how beneficial it would have been to have a knowledgable person there to cater to my every need during one of the most important times in my life.
Soon after having my son I started doing some research and quickly knew what my hearts song was. I was scared but took a leap of faith, put my trust in God and quit my job of 16 years to do what my heart and soul desired. I’m so happy I did! I have been able to tap into my gifts that have been passed down to me and use them in my work. I’m able to use different plantitas (plants) to support the uterus during pregnancy, heal the womb during the postpartum period and to support the perineal. Birth work has changed me in so many ways and I’m not the same women I was before 2020. I have so much compassion for the transformational process that a women goes through before, during and after pregnancy. When starting a journey with a family, I take my time in getting to know them as individuals and as a unit. Spending time together, guiding, educating and learning their personalities to better understand my clients.
Now let’s get into the personal side of me. My name is Michelle, I come from Mexican and Irish decent. I have many different hobbies that include learning about the plantitas (plant medicine), making different tea blends so that I can build a relationship with it first before using them on others. Fun fact, I have a mini apothecary in my kitchen and it has become my favorite space in my home. I love baking, my mom has been a baker for over 25 years so it’s very comforting to me. Aside from that, I love spending time with my husband, my boy’s and my three fur babies (Maya, Jiji and Nipsey). Though my house may get chaotic from time to time, I wouldn’t change it for anything.
I hope this helps in getting to know me a bit better and I would love to chat if you have any questions regarding what I offer.
